IOS Performance Tweaks (Apple)
This article contains performance tweaks I found to improve performance either by improving speed or reducing battery consumption.
iOS 17 and greater
Settings → General → Background App Refresh
From here you have two options:
- Go to Background App Refresh → select Off
- Select on a per app basis which apps are allowed to do background refresh
Option 1 probably prevents messaging apps and apps requesting two-factor authentication like banking apps from working. Therefore it option is only recommended on a smart phone which does not have this type of apps.
For consumer smart phones it is probably safer not to deactivate the background app refresh all together but rather go for option 2 by deactivating all background refresh on a per app basis and then enable it for every app which seems not to work as expected, i.e. if it does not provide timely notifications.
iOS 26 and greater
Disable Liquid Glass Related Features
Settings → Display & Brightness → Liquid Glass → select Clear or Tinted
Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → activate Reduce Transparency
Settings → Accessibility → Motion → activate Reduce Motion
After activating Reduce Motion a new option appears which can optionally be activated:
Settings → Accessibility → Motion → activate Prefer Cross-Fade Transitions
